Zoom announced new artificial intelligence (AI) features at its annual Zoomtopia conference, including an upgraded AI companion, AI notetaking across platforms, AI avatars, and new meeting productivity tools.
The upgraded AI companion will work across multiple meeting apps, including Google Meet and Microsoft Teams. It can also take notes during in-person meetings. The company is introducing a feature that allows users to write their own notes during meetings, which the AI will later expand and structure.
Zoom is adding cross-platform search to allow users to retrieve information across Google and Microsoft services. New calendar features include AI-assisted scheduling to find time slots for all attendees, as well as a “free up my time” option that suggests meetings users may skip.
Additional meeting tools include proactive agenda and task recommendations, as well as a group AI assistant.
The company is also introducing photorealistic AI avatars, which can mimic users’ actions on video. The avatars are expected to be available by the end of the year. Zoom said these avatars could be used when users are not prepared to appear on camera. The avatars will also be integrated into Zoom Clips, allowing hosts to greet attendees in waiting rooms and explain the purpose of meetings.
Zoom announced new AI-powered live translation features and enhancements to its web interface to make the AI companion more prominent. Other new AI tools include a writing assistant for drafting emails and documents, and a research feature.
The platform will also support the creation of custom AI agents through Model Context Protocol (MCP), higher bit rate and 60fps video for meetings, and a new video management tool for handling video assets.
